Six different phenacyl halide derivative of -picoline were synthesized and studied for their antibacterial activity against twenty four gram negative and twelve gram positive microorganisms. Compound I, III and IV showed almost broad spectrum activity, whereas rest of three compounds did not exhibit so promising results. Spectroscopic techniques, such as 1H-NMR, EIMS, UV and IR spectroscopy were utilized for their structure elucidation. Keywords: ß-picoline, phenacyl halides, antibacterial.
